Madrid to Segovia Private Transfer

The journey

Segovia is about 92 km north-west of Madrid. The route runs up the AP-6 and then the AP-61, crossing the Sierra de Guadarrama through the tunnels, and takes around seventy minutes in normal conditions. It is a genuinely pleasant drive — the mountains on one side for most of it.

Winter is the one caveat worth stating: the Guadarrama gets snow, and on bad days the pass adds time. We watch it and tell you if a departure needs moving.

Car or train? The honest answer

The AVE from Madrid-Chamartín reaches Segovia-Guiomar in under half an hour. On paper that beats the car comfortably.

The catch is where Guiomar is. The station sits roughly 6 km outside Segovia, in open country, and you need a bus or a taxi to get from it to the aqueduct. That connection is fine when it works and frustrating when you have just missed one.

A private car makes more sense when:

• You want to arrive at the old town, not at a station outside it
• You are a family or a group, where several train tickets plus two taxis stops being cheap
• You want to add La Granja de San Ildefonso to the same day — practical by road, awkward otherwise
• You are continuing to Ávila afterwards rather than returning to Madrid
• You are travelling in winter and would rather not stand on an exposed platform

Day trip or one way

Segovia works both ways. As a day trip, the car waits while you see the aqueduct, the Alcázar and the cathedral, then takes you back — booked as hourly hire so the car stays with you.

As a one-way transfer it is priced by distance, which is what most people choose when Segovia is a stop on a longer route rather than the destination itself.

Segovia and Ávila are about 65 km apart, so seeing both in one day by road is realistic. It is not realistic by train.

Which vehicle

The Mercedes E-Class covers one to three passengers comfortably and handles the mountain section well. For four to seven, or for a group carrying coats and camera bags in winter, the Mercedes First Class Van.

Larger groups take the minibus. The S-Class and Maybach are available if the occasion calls for them.
